  • Australian Centre for Rural & Remote Mental Health (ACRRMH) arose out of the Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health-Queensland. The Queensland Centre came into being in 2006 after widespread consultation with academic, service, community, indigenous, consumer and carer groups and other interested parties. The ACRRMH’s charter draws focus on the three major population sectors in rural and remote Australia – the mining and resources sector, the agricultural sector and Indigenous Australia.

  • Black Dog Institute is a not-for-profit, educational, research, clinical and community-oriented facility offering specialist expertise in depression and bipolar disorder.
  • BlazeAid is a volunteer-based organisation that works with farmers and families in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires and floods. Working alongside the farmers, our volunteers help to rebuild fences that have been damaged or destroyed.
  • The Blokes' Book (Western Australia) a directory of services available to men across a broad range of health and wellbeing areas including crisis services, relationships, fathering, eating right, being active, weight control, alcohol and drug use, preventable diseases, suicide prevention, legal and financial support
  • Blueboard is an online community for people suffering from depression or anxiety, their friends and carers, and for those who are concerned that they may have depression or anxiety and want some support.  Established by Australian National University researchers, it has moderators from rural areas and about 2800 members.
  • Bravehearts provide counselling and support to children, adolescents and adult survivors of child sexual assault as well as their family members.
  • Burdekin Mental Health Foundation the primary roles of the consortium are community awareness, education and information.
  • Cairns Mental Health Carers Support Hub offers assistance to carers, families and friends of someone living with a mental illness, in accessing the services they require, in a supportive, family  friendly manner.
  • Carers Australia  Carers are an integral part of Australia's health system and are the foundation of our aged, disability, palliative and community care systems. Caring may include help and support in any of the activities of daily life of the person being cared for.  It may include physical and personal care and assistance such as dressing, lifting, showering, feeding or providing transport. Commonly carers are responsible for the management of medications.  Carers provide emotional, social or financial support.  Caring may also involve helping the person they are caring for to be organised, reminding them to attend appointments and dealing with emergencies. Australia has about 2.6 million carers or 12% of the population.

  • Centacare Catholic Family Services Counsellors can visit farms to provide family and relationships advice and support.
  • Centre for Rural & Remote Mental Health (CRRMH) is based in Orange. It is a major rural initiative of The University of Newcastle, Faculty of Health and the NSW Department of Health. CRRMH aims to bring quality education and research programs to all rural areas of NSW through effective partnerships. The Centre will improve the mental health of rural and remote communities through academic leadership, collaboration and achievements in research, education, service development and information services.
  • Children Of Parents with a Mental Illness (COPMI) a comprehensive list of child and family programs, services and helplines across Australia
  • CORES is a community based program which educates members of the local community how to intervene when somebody in the community is suicidal. The program takes the approach of “teaching people how to fish”, rather than giving them “food”, in that local community members are trained to be trainers and it is these local community people who deliver the program to their own community.

  • Mental Health First Aid first aid is the help given to an injured person before medical treatment can be obtained. Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.

Anyone with a mental health issue can use the Mental Health Line to be directed to the right care for them. Carers, mental health professionals and emergency workers can also access the line

  • Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia (MIFA) is a national network of service providers, with members in every state and territory working alongside individuals and families affected by serious mental illness.
  • MoodGYM is an innovative, interactive web program designed to prevent depression. It consists of five modules, an interactive game, anxiety and depression assessments, downloadable relaxation audio, a workbook and feedback assessment.  MoodGYM was designed and developed by staff at the Centre for Mental Health Research at the Australian National University.

You can track your moods, write about them and view information and tips. You can also choose to do one of the modules designed to help you manage mild to moderate stress, anxiety and depression.

There are many Australians who do not access health care services for a range of reasons such as distance and cost. Making services available online means that more people will be able to get help for their mental and physical health concerns.   • PTSD Forum   Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a life threatening, debilitating disorder that can break down a sufferer’s body through anxiety and stress. Further it poses a significant suicide risk resulting from the brains neurological imbalance and chemical depression. Sufferers often live in denial, thus this community is aimed at helping PTSD sufferers help themselves through others experiences, guidance and education. We are here for the sufferer, spouse and families surrounding PTSD. Spouses and family are too often forgotten in this equation, and often they receive all the worst that PTSD has to offer.   • Rural Alive and Well (RAW) - Tasmania Rural Alive and Well Inc is a not for profit organisation delivering suicide prevention and community wellbeing services to the Central Highlands, Glamorgan Spring Bay and Southern Midlands Municipalities in Tasmania. Rural Alive & Well Inc is also funded to provide a suicide prevention and community wellbeing service for Forest Workers, their families and associated businesses who have been impacted by recent changes to the Forest Industry within Tasmania.
  • Rural Health Channel is the first nationally available free-to-air health TV channel. The Rural Health Channel is being broadcast on Channel 600 via the Aurora Digital satellite system which carries VAST (Viewer Access Satellite Television) services. VAST services provide digital TV to people who cannot receive terrestrial digital television and currently reach 84,000 households. Government estimates expect this number to grow to 400,000 by the end of next year.

  • The Shed Online is an online social community for men, founded by beyondblue.  Like the original Men’s Sheds, The Shed Online is a place for men to socialise, network, make friends and share skills. It aims to recreate the atmosphere of “real life” Men Sheds – a safe space where men can feel confident to discuss and exchange information. The Shed Online aims to foster a sense of community and build men’s social networks.
